How to apply False Eyelashes + Review of Eldora H151 Lashes.

I get asked this many times so I thought I'll do a short blog post on how to apply false eyelashes as well as a review on the Eldora eyelashes I used.
I'm quite a fan of Eldora Lashes but if I don't like something I will tell you all. I hate it when I spend money on something and end up regretting it. We don't all have money to chuck away :(
Eldora False Eyelashes in H151
As far as the lashes go.... I really do love them. Thier my new favourite and you'll see why. I've been lookin g for lashes like these for like ever. It's heavy at the base of the lash strip and  sparse at the tips. Because of it's uneven lengths, it allows your natrual lashes to blend effortlessly. Eldora have great packaging and each lash comes with a tube of lash adhesive. The eyelashes cost £4.25 and free UK delivery! However these lashes were kindly sent to me to review. The lashes are re-usable but you have to take care of the lash after each wear :)

Right.... how to apply false lashes.
First you want to carefully peel away the lashes from the tray. To do this I usually pick at one end and pull away.
You then want to place it on your lash line WITHOUT any glue so that you can measure and check if you need to cut the length. With my deep smokey eye look I didn't have to cut the length, however when I wore the lashes with a pin up look I had to cut the strip a little at the end. I think this is because the lash strip was more apparent.
When appling the glue things can get messy. So the best way to handle the lash is to hold it with a pair of tweezers. (See below) Squeeze down gently on the centre of the lash with the strip facing upwards.
Sqeeze out an even amount of glue along the lash strip, concentrating the glue more on the ends of the strip. Wait around 30-50secs for the glue to become tacky. If you apply the lashes straight away the glue will go all over you natural lashes and your eyelid. Although the glue dries clear it still leaves a shine behind. With the glue being tacky you can prevent the glue going all over the lid and ruining your eyeshadow and the lashes sit better and quicker on your lash line. Trust me it makes it a billion times easier to apply.
Try not to get glue onto the lash like me.. if you do jus dab it off.
Then it's just a case of you fiddling around and making sure it's placed as close the the lash line as possible. Remember, while the glue is still apparent, it means your able to still fiddle and move the lash around. Then to cover up the strip, which isn't to visible you need to go over you eyeliner.
It was  quite hard taking pictures whilst applying the Lashes but here's how I hold and place them onto my lash line.
Oh a tip, apply your eyeliner before you apply your false lashes but be sure to use a pencil, shadow or gel liner. I say this because with liquid liner you have to make sure its fully dry, but even then the glue doesn't seem to sit well. I'm not sure why and this can ruin the whole application. So apply liquid liner AFTER you've applied your falsies.

Hope this blog post was handy and if you do purchase the Eldora H151 Lashes than let me know what you think of them.

DIY Lip Palette

A quick DIY post on a very cheap and easy lip palette. I have to give all credit to a youtube guru who I came across when looking for a cheap alternative to the Japanesque palettes. Shes known as wildkatmakeup and here are some links to her Blog and YouTube videos.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPPD4-goJeY&feature=youtube_gdata_player
http://wildkatmakeup.com/

32 Watercolour Palette
The watercolour palette used, can only be found in WHSmith here in the UK for about £3.99. I'm not sure if they have it anywhere else outside of the UK. Sorry!! Once you open the wrapper and remove the paints you will find the palette hidden underneath...

Voila!!!

I wouldn't recommend you doing this for personal lipsticks. Only because I wouldnt want to destroy my lipsticks for no given reason. Anyway I think it's a great way to save space for travelling makeup artist. And it actually is fun to do, well once you get over the gruelling stage of cutting off your lipsticks.

So to begin with you will need:
Lipsticks
Scissor
Paper towels
Table spoon
Tea spoon
A candle
Lighter
Old newspaper or anything else you can use (to lay out to avoid getting a mess everywere)
Alcohol spirit / Rub

First and most important rule is to sanitize EVERYTHING. Literally. Using water to clean products is a no no, as water, overtime can build up germs. So even between lipsticks you want to clean with the sanitizer.
Surgical Spirit to sanitize..

You want to also lay out the lipsticks in the order that you want them to be in, in the palette.  For e.g. pinks, reds, browns...

Once you have done the above, oh and also laid out some newspaper to avoid getting a mess everywhere, grab your first lipstick and your scissors. NOTE this can get extremely messy and you probably won't get it right the first time. After many attempts I worked out that about 1.5cm of the lipstick was enough to fill up one slot.

With the scissors you want to slice the lipstick at an angle.  Like so.....

Then it's as simple as melting the lipstick and pouring it into the slot. See pics below.

And then using the paper towels, sanitise and repeat.  :)

So yeah..... it really is as simple as that. And from my pictures you can see that after a lot of go's I finally got it right and had them look perfect. :)

The palette doesn't burn, it's sturdy and just such a money saver.

Thank you wildkatmakeup!! ;)

Ps. Yes the technique I've used is different to that of wildkatmakeup, and I've done a second palette since and shall upload a pic soon x

Sigma Makeup Brush Review

The long awaited Sigma Brush review...

The Goodies :)
Before I start, if you wish to know more about where I bought my Sigma brushes from then please read the Sigma Makeup Brushes - Cost, Delivery etc blog post here ----->

I know this review has taken some time to be posted and I apologize but..... it means i've had time to actually use and test out the brushes :)

Below is a list of the items I bought and this price...
  1. Brush Cup Holder - $20
  2. E40 Tapered Blending - $22
  3. E45 Small Tapered Blending - $9
  4. F23 Tapered Face - $22
  5. F35 Tapered Highlighter - $16
  6. F80 Flat Kabuki - $16
  7. F82 Round Kabuki - $16
  8. Synthetic Precision Kit - $49 (P80 - Precision Flat, P82 - Precision Round, P84 - Precision Angled, P86 - Precision Tapered)
I won't make this review a long one  and I did have a picture of all the brushes for you guys but I seem to have deleted it so will upload one, once my brushes have been cleaned :) So lets get started....

Before you start using any new brushes its vital to clean give them a good clean, so to do this I used the MAC Brush Cleanser. (Pictured above) Firstly the Brush Cup Holder.... I was mega excited to get my hands on this, specially at the fact that its not available here in the UK. It looks good, stores a lot of brushes and is really convenient. It does take up a lot of space so now I use it to hold my personal brushes.
The E40 Tapered Blending is one of my favourite brushes out the lot. Its an amazing blending brush for your eyelid crease or your concealer. However the size of the brush will make it harder to use on smaller eyelids.
The E45 Small Tapered Blending is another great brush for blending and also creating a cut crease.
The F23 Tapered Face was a brush I wanted for a very loooong time. Its perfect to use as a powder brush for your face, more for setting than blusher as its really big and super soft.
The F35 Tapered Highlighter is great for.... highlighting :) its the perfect size and as all the other brushes, super soft. Its also great for soft contouring of the face.
The F80 Flat Kabuki is my new favourite foundation brush!! It perfectly blends the foundation into your skin and really leaves an airbrush feel.
The F82 Round Kabuki another great foundation brush and works well blending around the nose and under the eye area.
And lastly the Synthetic Precision Kit, a great set that has many different uses. The P80 & P82 are great brushes for blending in your concealers, correctors. I've used them with my cream concealers and I love it! The P84 & P86 are ideal for contouring and also great for highlighting. The P86 is perfect to contour the nose... which I need a lot :(

The Goodies.....again :)
I also received a freebie pictured below. Part of their eyeshadow palettes, which I want soooooo bad. The colour I received is Shine, which is a shimmery black with specks of silvery glitter... I think. Haven't used it yet, but thank it will look sexy as a smokey eye look. :)

Sigma eyeshadow in Shine
I hope this review helped you guys... and if you have any questions then please don't hesitate to ask.

Sigma Makeup Brushes - Cost, Delivery etc

Many of use wanted to know where and how I purchased my Sigma Makeup brushes. So I thought ill do this as a separate blog to the brush review. Read on to find out more....

I ordered my sigma brushes from the Sigma site based in America. Here's a link; http://www.sigmabeauty.com/?Click=283873

The Sigma brushes are also available online here in the UK at Love-Makeup and Cocktail Cosmetics;
&

I had my eyes on the Sigma brushes for a very long time but was never too sure on which brush to order. Not being able to see them myself made it hard to see and feel the quality of these brushes. So I read many reviews and watched many YouTube reviews till I finally decided to place an order.

The reason why I placed my order on the American site was because I wanted to place a big order and the UK site didn't have all the brushes I wanted. Thats the only problem with the UK sites, they don't always have new stock and when they do they go FAST!  Also, at the time the total of the brushes and delivery in US Dollars was pretty much the same as British Pounds so I didn't see any reason not to place my order.

Price
So my order came up to $170 and I chose to have USPS Priority Mail International which was $52.40, a total of $222.40. In GBP this came up to £146.85 at the exchange rate of 1 British Pound = 1.51447 US Dollars. Exchange rate is the value of a Pound in Dollars and this changes all the time, it is also dependent on the method of payment you choose.
As I said there really wasn't much of a difference in price... the only time you'd see such a difference is if you were to place a massive order like for hundreds of Dollars. But if you wanted just the 1 or 2 brushes then its really not worth buying from the American site.

Delivery
Sigma offer 3 types of international delivery;
- USPS First Class: No tracking number and you have to allow at least 13-31 business days
- USPS Priority Mail: Inc tracking number and allow 10-15 business days
- USPS Express: Inc tracking number and allow 6-10 business days

The price for the above delivery methods depends on the total of your goods I believe...I strongly advise choosing a delivery method with a tracking code as this will ensure you receive you parcel. I chose the USPS Priority Mail International and my parcel reached Britain in a week.

Now for the sad news......:( when receiving parcels from abroad, the customs in your country may or may not hold the parcel to check it and find out where it came from and if its all legit basically. They then slap a customs charge on you, which when paid will your parcel be released. Sigma did say on their website that they are not liable for any customs charges so its not their fault at all but the annoying British Customs :(.

Knowing my parcel reached British customs in a week and was not with me hurt me a lot :( it then spent another 10 days in customs, during which I had a number of conversations with customs to find out why and how long it was going to be there. If i'm honest they explained why but I didn't understand and I just really wanted my parcel. So I was told that I would have to pay a further £32.40p to have my parcel released from customs :( which could take up to 2 weeks. The letter with the charge details actually came through with in days and I paid the fine and was able to choose next day delivery. Finally I had my Brushes with me and was very :).

Service
I had no problems at all with the service I received from Sigma. They were really helpful and answered  all my question quickly.

The good that came out of this was that I was able to purchase items that aren't sold on the UK sites but the obvious bad was that I lost out on around £20 all because of customs.

Hope this explained everything well for you all... don't let customs scare you as I have heard that it doesn't happen all the time. I was just one of the unlucky ones :(

If you have any questions then please leave a comment below and I will reply as soon as x

Sleek Eye Shadow Palettes

Sleek Maniaaaaaa

This will be a quick swatch/review and, for now, the last Sleek post from me on the eye shadow palettes available from Sleek.

I own 10 of the Sleek eye shadow palettes, priced at £6.49 at Superdrugs here in the UK. The eye shadow palettes contain both matte and glittery powder shadows. As usual Sleek packaging is great, very sturdy, strong and reliable. I have dropped some palettes more than once and still no damage. The powders are very pigmented and if used on top of a primer/base the colour will look amazing. The only downfall about these palettes, more the old than the new, is the amount of fall you get. The shadow does crumble a bit when you try to pick it up on your brush and does fall out a lot when applying the product to the eyes. Other than that, they are yet again a must have and worth every penny.

Scroll down to check out the swatches and my recommendations....

Bohemian 604

Sunset 568

Acid 570 - Recommend if you love Neon!

Storm 578 - Hit pan on the brown as it was a great eyebrow colour

The Original 594

The Jewels 579

Chaos 577
Au Naturel 601 (NEW) -  Recommend... great palette for everyday use

Ultra Matts V1 730 (NEW)
Ultra Matts V2 731 - Recommend, my current fave...
Sleek have improved their products as the new eye shadows have less fall out and are more pigmented. All of the above swatches are without primer, so you can see the true colour of each shadow.

I wouldn't recommend buying all the palettes as you wont be using all of them, have a look at the products and see what colours you like to use in your every day life and buy a palette that is best suited for you. However if your an addict like me then go ahead and buy the whole lot :)

Hope this helped x

How to Clean your Makeup Brushes!!!

I get asked about this all the time, so I thought I'll write up a blog with a step by step direction along with some tips & advice.....

First I just want to say that I cannot stress how important it is to wash your makeup brushes on a regular basis. The amount of bacteria that can build up is one of the main causes for those little horrible and unnecessary break outs we get :( You have to remember that we use our brushes everyday, or more than once a week at least.... that same brush is being dipped, dabbed in the same product every time (i.e foundations) and if your not washing those brushes the bacteria is not only building up on the brush but on the makeup products you use too. Makeup is also about good hygiene.... and if you want to achieve that flawless look then you need to make sure you're tools are at their best too.

Before I start with the step by step directions here's a little information on one of the products I use....

Extra Virgin Olive Oil.....

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Extra Virgin Olive Oil is the pure oil obtained from the fruit of olive trees. It has 101 uses, which I wont be listing here, don't worry lol... but just for those who want to know, here's what I use it for:
  • Body oil - great for dry Skin
  • Hair oil - leave in over night, after a good wash you hair will be silky smooth
  • Tame Frizzy Hair - use a pea size amount, spread all over the palms of you hands and then lightly spread on dried/styled hair...
  • Makeup remover - use a damp kitchen towel/tissue/cotton pad, pour a few drops, spread around the damp product and wipe off makeup (good money saver than them expensive face wipes)
  • Makeup Brush Cleaner (see below)
  • Nail Cuticles
  • I don't cook but I'm sure my mother uses it in her cooking too
So you kind of get the idea that olive oil really can be used for a lot of beauty regimes and is a money saver ;) It can be found at local supermarkets, pharmacies...

On with the brush cleaning.... here's what you will need

Dirty brushes, Shampoo, Oil & Tissue
  1. Kitchen tissue/towel - to clean the brushes on
  2. Dirty Make up Brushes - obviously
  3. Olive oil (you can try another, I have also used Johnson's Baby Oil) - helps deep clean the brushes and remove any dirt and remaining colour
  4. & Shampoo - just like your own hair, you want to have you brushes smelling and feeling fresh and like new....and to also get the oil out :)
Thats all you'll need.....

Step 1:
For this step you need the below....

Makeup Brush & Tissue
This step demonstrates how to break down the colour from your makeup brush and really clean out the bristles. The point of deep cleaning your brushes is to ensure that the bristles are cleaned within and all the colour left inside the brush, which you cant see, is cleaned out also.
Here's how I clean mine....

Cleaning the brushes in Olive Oil

I've found that pouring the oil out on to a flat surface works better than having to pour it bit by bit on the tissue, so once I've poured about 2 tables spoons (depending on how many brushes you have to clean), I take my dirty brush and dab it in the oil so that the bristle are just lightly coated. Please be sure not to soak you brushes in the oil as it will be harder to wash out.
Next with the tissue placed in the palm of my hand, I work the brush in a gentle, circular motion to start breaking down any colour on the brush.

If you feel like there is more colour still left in the brush you can redo this step.
Both the above brushes have been cleaned twice in the oil step.
The darker  patch is the first round were a lot of the colour broke out.

Here's another brush with a lot of pigmented colour...

I love cleaning brushes that have a lot of colour on them :)

And here's what my tissue looked like at the end....

I used the one tissue for all my brushes, no point wasting stuff.......

However if your brush has only been used the once with a light colour for example a translucent powder, you can skip this step and go straight on the next step, the shampoo.

Step 2:

Again just the like the oil step, you want to find a flat surface near a tap to pour your shampoo on... I prefer this then having to pour it out bit by bit onto my hand each time.

Shampoo step...

Don't be afraid to coat the brush here with the shampoo as this will clean out the oil from the previous step as well has any dirt and colour still left in the brush.

Cleaning the brushes in the shampoo

To clean the brush you want to follow the circular motion from before, you can also squeeze the foam from the shampoo and just like you own hair I guess, run your fingers through the bristle...if that makes sense :/
Then hold the brush under running cold water until the water runs clear. Be sure not to hold your brush upright through out this step as you do not want water to sink in to the body of the brush and also remember when washing the brush we do not want water to go beyond the metal part which holds all the bristles together. If you do this you will ruin your brushes and they will slowly fall apart. Lastly, squeeze out all the water left in the brush and be sure to shape you brush while its still damp.

I had to wash this brush twice till the foam was white and clear of colour

Step 3:
Once you've finished with all your makeup brushes, all you need to do is lay them out to dry.

Cleaned, shaped and ready to dry :)

I lay mine flat on its side to dry with the bristle part on a tissue...... and that's about it :)

Its as easy as that, and if it means you'll have clean tools and less germs then believe me its worth doing!

Quick note, you can also use a brush cleanser to do a quick clean of you brushes, specially when you need to use a brush for more then one colour during one look. I use the below cleanser in the same circular motion on a tissue, but this time I pour a little of the product on the tissue first.

Sleek Pout Paint

Some more Sleek reviews :) I will be doing other reviews too but might as well get Sleek out of the way......

Sleek Pout Paint is a Lip Pigment which comes in a small sized tube perfect for you to carry around in your purse. This lip product is not a lipstick nor a lip gloss but gives the look of both also there's a wide variety of colours to choose from and you can mix it up too. If your familiar with the OCC Liptar you will know what I'm talking about, if not then read on.

Pout paint is an amazing product to have, its something you can be really creative with or just stick to a simple look with. The best thing about this product though is that you only need the most tiniest amount, like I cant even think of something to compare it to, maybe a small zit lol (of all things), as that will literally cover the whole lip area what ever the size... I'm serious, have a look below.....

Order of Pout Paint in the top left hand pic only: Cloud 9 153, Pin Up 157, Port 159, Rosetta 158, Minx 161 & Peek-a-bloo 163
From the picture above you can see the amount of product I used on the lips,if anything there were some left over. The lip colours in order from the mid left picture are Minx,Rosetta,Port & Pin Up. You can see how pigmented they are and what I meant by 'not a lipstick nor a lip gloss' they give great coverage and last a long time. They do, however, dry after some hours of wear but a bit of clear lip gloss will sort that out.

Now your wondering what the White (Cloud 9) and Blue (Peek-a-bloo) colours are used for... well they help change the colours of the pout paints, Peek-a-bloo will add depth and warmth and Cloud 9 will lighten the colour. If your daring and couldn't care less about what others say then by all means wear these colours out, alone on your lips. Check out the picture below to see what colours I mixed up and what I created...

Pin up & Cloud 9 - Minx & Peek-a-bloo
I mixed Pin up & Cloud and got a lovely Pink, with Minx & Peek-a-bloo I got a very nice Lilac but not a colour I would wear out :/
The pout paints are £4.99 at Superdrugs here in the UK. I bought the above colours because the range of colours they have are quite similar and you can easily mix and make another colour in the line. Other then the Orange called Lava I bought the most prominent colours they had.
Well I hope this helped someone out there :)
If you have any questions or requests please leave a comment below. x

Eldora - False Eyelashes

Eldora sell some amazing False Eyelashes, I have tried brands like Eylure, Red Cherry and so on but these lashes for the price are really worth it and as a Makeup Artist I needed eyelashes that were reliable and affordable..the lashes are also reusable. I've been converted and have been shopping with them since. They have a range of False Eyelashes from simple, natural looking to outrageous, funky in-your-face lashes!!

Went a bit Craaaaazzzyyyy!
Before I go on here is a link to their website; http://www.eldorashop.co.uk/ and this is their Facebook page were they have regular competitions http://www.facebook.com/pages/Eldora-False-Eyelashes/170045198109

Eldora sell their goods online and one main problem, for me anyway, is not being able to see, feel, try what I'm buying.... especially eyelashes. We all have different eye shapes and different taste when it comes to stuff like this and although Eldora have good pictures on their website it still wasn't good enough for me. Nevertheless I went ahead and ordered a number of lashes and thought ill try them all out.

So I thought I'd share with you guys what my first impressions were :) and some picture....

First I wanted to write about the packaging. The below images show you the packaging the false eyelashes come in, its your normal little box made out of card, I believe, with their logo printed on a Yellow background. I've never received the products damaged in the post or anything like that so its good enough. You can also see the items you receive, which are the eyelashes, tray and adhesive. The next image is the back of the packaging where they have put directions on for their customers and glue ingredients.

Outer Packaging, Tray with Eyelashes & Adhesive
Back of the packaging
OK... I don't want to go on and on and on so I'm going to post the pictures with a little description below..... Enjoy! :)

H104
A Natural looking set, perfect to give your own some length and volume but still look.... real.

H105
These are Natural but not so natural if that makes sense :) The hairs on these are more separated and longer making it a little obvious.

H106
One of my favourites! These look really natural on the eye, just giving a little depth to the corner of you eye. you can probably even wear these out in the day.

H122
Another favourite! These might look a little out-there and in-your-face.. but I promise they aren't. I love these , they give you volume, length with out looking too fake.

H125
These lashes are great for a night out, paired with a smokey eye look. They are longer at the end which will elongate your eye and also add length and volume.

H126
These are a shorter version of the above, H125, they don't fit on my eye so I just use them on the corner using only the last 3 strips.

H128
Another natural looking set. When your own lashes are combed in with these they will look fabulous. I would wear these out in the day :)

H131
Some in-your-face lashes... this set gives a lot of volume and stand out a lot! perfect for a party, night out and bridal. Probably not suited for those who prefer the natural look

H140
Well..... I think these speak for themselves lol. Thank god I only ordered 1 pair of these. They aren't my cup of tea but hey maybe a client might end up asking for something like this and it might be something you're interested in...

So I hope this review/information helped you guys make some decision.... just a few more notes about Eldora.... They are fast with delivery, friendly, reliable and provide a great range to suit you all.
Below I have some tips for using False Eyelashes :)

TIPS:
1. Always let the glue dry a little and become tacky before you apply them to your eyes
2. Measure the false lashes against your own to see if you need to cut the length a little.... this is very important!
3. If you wish to re-use your false lashes then apply mascara to your own lashes first and the stick on the false lashes. If you do not want to re-use the false lashes then I advise to stick on the false lashes and then mascara the your own lashes and the false lashes together....I'm confusing myself writing 'lashes' all the time... I hope I'm making sense...:)
